The event will take place at the Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 22, offering the public a rare glimpse into his remarkable journey of sporting excellence.
Penang Badminton Association president Datuk Kah Kau Kiak described Teh as not only a Penang icon but a national hero in the history of Malaysian sports.
“In an era of material scarcity, Teh represented Penang—and Malaysia—with distinction, competing across the globe and achieving outstanding results. His fearless spirit and perseverance are qualities that the younger generation can learn from and admire,” said Kah.
Kah expressed gratitude to Teh for generously lending his personal collection of awards for public display, many of which will be exhibited for the first time.
“These trophies are more than symbols of victory—Joining Teh in this prestigious exhibition are other national badminton icons, including Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, mixed doubles star Chan Peng Soon, and two-time world junior champion Goh Jin Wei, who have all agreed to contribute their medals to the showcase.
Kah also revealed that the association is actively engaging other legends in hopes of further expanding the exhibition with more prized memorabilia.
Teh’s career began in 1955 and spanned more than a decade of domestic and international triumphs. He represented Malaysia in the Thomas Cup four times—in 1958, 1961, 1964, and 1967—clinching the championship as team captain in 1967.
Known as an “all-rounder,” Teh excelled in all formats—singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. He won the 1960 Mexico City International Championship and the 1962 Asian Championship in singles. In men’s doubles, he partnered with Lim Sai Hup to dominate the 1959 season, claiming titles at the Glasgow World Invitational, All England, Canada, US, Malaysia, and Mexico Opens.
In mixed doubles, Teh and his wife Datin Ng Mei Ling proved a formidable pair, winning the 1962 Malaya Open and the 1965 Malaysian Championship—showcasing a rare harmony both on and off the court.
Beyond badminton, Teh was also a multi-sport talent. He represented Penang in cricket, competed in Chinese Athletic Association hookball tournaments, played basketball for Anglo-Chinese School, and was part of the Penang Island Municipal Council’s football team—now the predecessor of Penang Island City Hall.
